The Northern Metro VASSP Group was regenerated in May, 2003, after some years in abeyance. A number of members had indicated to VASSP that they believed Northern Region principal class officers needed a collegial forum through which they could receive current information on government, department and VASSP policy initiatives, and through which they could contribute to policy making on the range of issues which surround them daily in their work.

Members also wanted to be able to debate issues in forum free from the constraints of having DE&T personnel in attendance, and in which the agenda was very much under their control.
